Behind the Music:
I wrote this one in NYC in the 1990s (while I was in my band, Girlfriend) during a desperate time: I was in love (and married the girl), and the first bombing of the World Trade Towers happened while I was in Manhattan, I watched our Marines on TV battle ferociously in Mogadishu, I was on Fire Island the summer night when a TWA jumbo jet exploded just off the coast and I could smell the smoke. I felt like I might not make it out of the 1990s alive. I felt the only thing I could count on was the girl I was falling in love with. This song was my response to the chaos. It will release to all the streaming platforms on December 6th, 2022.
Lyrics
It’s time to walk into the night
Our eyes adjust to lunar light
Passing through these evergreens
We see things we’ve never seen,
We should always be so close, my dear,
We should always whisper tender words into each other’s ears
You are the dose I need to drink before I disappear,
We should always be so close,
In my head there’s a screaming choir,
Break down walls for buildings higher,
You set me loose into this world,
Set me loose so this is heard,
We should always be so close, my dear,
We should always whisper tender words into each other’s ears
You are the dose I need to drink before I disappear,
We should always be so close,
Is there anything we failed to see along the way?
Is there anything we missed?
If there’s anything we failed to see along the way,
If there’s anything we missed…
One kiss,
We should always be so close, my dear,
We should always whisper tender words into each other’s ears
You are the dose I need to drink before I disappear,
We should always be so close,
We should always be so close, my dear,
We should always whisper tender words into each other’s ears
You are the dose I need to drink before I disappear,
We should always be so close,
